Supporting Children Through Regular Visits

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time, they just have the heart.”

Volunteering is not always about having extra time. It is about having the willingness to care and help others. At Pratheeksha, volunteers are committed to supporting children who need care, guidance, and encouragement.

A lot of meaningful work happens at the ground level. Regular interaction with schools, children, teachers, and families helps us understand the needs of children better. It also helps ensure that the support provided reaches the right people.

Supporting Children in Need

Children need more than financial support to grow and succeed. They also need someone to listen to them, guide them, and encourage them when they face difficulties.

Pratheeksha volunteers work closely with children and schools as part of this support. Through regular visits, volunteers can understand the progress of each child. They can also identify areas where a child may need additional guidance or support.

Visit to Two Schools

As part of a routine review, our volunteer Ms. Parvathy visited GHSS Chala and Fort Mission High School. During the visits, she spent quality time with the mentees and interacted with them about their school life.

She enquired about their studies, academic performance, extracurricular activities, and overall progress. These conversations helped her understand how the children were doing and whether they needed any further support.

Keeping Track of Progress

Regular school visits are also important for maintaining accountability. As sponsors support children with the hope that their contributions will be used for the right purpose, it is important to follow up on their progress.

The visits help us understand how the children are using the opportunities available to them. When improvement is needed, volunteers can offer suitable suggestions and take the necessary steps to provide support.

Encouragement Beyond Academics

Academic performance is important, but children also need opportunities to develop their interests and talents. Extracurricular activities can help them build confidence, communication skills, and other important abilities.

Through regular interaction, volunteers can encourage children to take part in activities that match their interests. A few words of encouragement can often give children the confidence they need to move forward.

Continuing the Commitment

The school visit by Ms. Parvathy was another step towards understanding and supporting the children better. Such visits remind us that volunteering is not only about giving resources. It is also about giving time, attention, guidance, and encouragement.

Pratheeksha hopes to continue these efforts and work closely with children, schools, volunteers, and sponsors. Together, these efforts can create better opportunities for children and help them move towards a brighter future.
